Our Work

Wherever possible, SAV intends to drill wells as a way to give the communities access to safe water. These wells will be equipped with manual pumps of Afridev type or similar. In cases where this is not possible, alternative adequate methods will be searched and implemented through partnership with dedicated institutions.

Following Política Nacional de Águas recommendations, “water committees” will be formed in each locality where well/wells is/are drilled and basics of hygiene and sanitation will be given to the communities.

In most communities people are willing to collaborate and help in whatever work they can to expedite work. It is desirable, although not yet achieved, that local people provide meals and accommodation to the crew during drilling of wells.

So far LWS has drilled more than forty wells and twenty more by subcontracting third party drillers. The majority of wells was drilled in the southmost Mozambique provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane.

Sometimes aftr hours or days of strenuous work the well is negative (little or no yield at all). Efforts are made to remove the expensive PVC casing and anothr drilling attempt is made elsewhere.

Another chalenge LWS faces is the is caused by the successive increases in fuel costs which render well costs higher and higher.
